Mt. Joy - The Anthem, Washington, D.C. - 10/8/21

The room at The Anthem in Washington, D.C. was filled to the brim with music lovers from all around to see Mt. Joy and Trampled By Turtles on October 8th, 2021. The eager masked crowd was tirelessly waiting for the room lights to dim and the stage lights to come on.

Trampled By Turtles took the stage first. Their owl eyes light set up towards the back of the stage was a focal point only to be replaced by the band themselves. The Duluth, Minnesota band took the stage opening with their song, “New Song/Burnt Iron.” The stage was lit with the owls in the back and it was so incredibly impressive. The energy between the band members was outstanding.

Mt. Joy closed the evening and closed it well. The energy was truly unmatched. Within their first three songs, they played fan favorite song, “Astrovan,” which had the crowd screaming from front barricade to all the way to the top in the seats. You could hear the excitement echo through the lines “Jesus drives and astrovan.” Mt. Joy truly exceeded all of my expectations with their live performance. They played such a great range of songs including some of my personal favorite; “Rearrange Us,” and “Jenny Jenkins” . The lights, the sound, the band - truly were out of this world. They closed their set with top track, “Silver Lining” which gave us all something to go home smiling about. Seeing Mt. Joy was like seeing an old friend I hadn’t seen in a very long time and just a reminder of how lucky we are to experience live music again.
