MAX - 9:30 Club, Washington, D.C. - 11/18/21
Being a fan of MAX over the years has been nothing but extraordinary to watch. His songs and performances have also aged so effortlessly. Back in 2016, my friend and I sat outside of a radio station in hopes of meeting MAX in the rain as he promoted his album, Hell's Kitchen Angel. With the other 5-6 fans, we hung outside for a few hours and were graciously allowed in to be in studio as MAX performed on air and walked down into the lobby with us to sit and chat and take photos with every single one of us. This is MAX.
Flash forward to a rainy but energetic evening at the ever-so iconic 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C., MAX headlined the club with fan so passionate and energetic and excited. Lauren Sanderson opened the evening with passionate fans who knew every single word to every song. She opened her set with her song, “Frustrated.” Each song she played with swagger, energy, and flow. Other fan favorites she performed included “QUEEN BEE” and “Girl From The Internet.” Lauren Sanderson is definitely an artist to watch in the next year.
MAX continued the party that Lauren started. He greeted us from on top of an oversized Rubix Cube, same as his album artwork from the “Colour Vision” album, with his band in tow and got the party going and never stopped once. MAX played songs from all over the timeline. He opened with the fitting track for the tour, “Color Vision.” He worked every single angle of the stage for all parts of the crowd. He invited his friend up to perform “Blueberry Eyes” in replacement of SUGA of BTS. He played tracks popularized with his side project, Party Pupils. His setlist could not have been better curated myself. MAX consistently performs and executes an amazing and entertaining show - this night was no different.
